Miyajima Water Fireworks Festival

7:40pm – 8:40pm
Free

This fireworks festival combines one of Japan’s most scenic places with one of Japan’s favourite summer activities – fireworks.

While not as full on as some of the big city fireworks festivals, it has the advantage of offering one of the most stunning views around – fireworks on the surface of the water behind the giant torii gate.

Viewing the festival is free, but you’ll need to catch the ferry from the mainland to Miyajima for ¥180 each way for adults and ¥90 for kids. It’s a JR ferry so it’s covered by the Japan Rail pass. Prepare for big crowds too as the organizers claim an attendance of 300,000 people in past years.

To get to Miyajimaguchi Station, take the JR Sanyo Honsen from Hiroshima Station. The journey should take 26 minutes and it costs 410yen each way.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, many events have been canceled. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
