That same electric buzz from 90s Super Nintendo commercials is still going strong and coming ‘atcha IRL. After its grand opening was postponed, the long-awaited Super Nintendo World theme park is now open.

What to expect at Super Nintendo World

Beloved Nintendo characters and landscapes come to life through three main interactive attractions:

Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge – A Mario Kart ride with a different experience every time. Guests will race throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, throwing shells and taking names with Mario and the gang. (5 minutes, 4 people per vehicle)

  • Note: Fans of the franchsise can experience real-life go-karting on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka.
  • Yoshi’s Adventure – Hitch a ride on Yoshi’s back while you follow Captain Toad on a treasure hunt for the Golden Egg. Guests will enjoy a view of the Mushroom Kingdom from Mount Beanpole. (5 minutes, 2 people per vehicle)

    Power-Up Band Key Challenges – Power-Up Bands are wristbands with innovative technology that link to your smartphone via the USJ app. The bands help you keep score, collect virtual coins and stamps, and check your rankings. You’ll need one to participate in the Key Challenge, where you work through games around the area helping Peach retrieve the Golden Mushroom stolen by Bowser Jr.

    The Power-up Bands come in different colours and cost ¥3,200 each at the park.

    While Super Nintendo World’s offerings are limited to start, there’s word that a future attraction based on Donkey Kong Country is in the works.

    To secure your spot and skip the line at Super Nintendo World, you’ll need an “Area Timed Entry Ticket: Advance Booking”. Alternatively, once you enter the park, you can get an “Area Timed Ticket” through the official app or from a park kiosk.

    Note: Super Nintendo World will be operating at 50% capacity for the time being due to anti-COVID measures.
